Enlightened Collard Greens

1. It’s hot and humid in the south. Undress down to your skivvies and put on your “Where’s the beef?” apron.

2. De-stem, wash, and then rough chop the collards.

3. In a large pan, heat enough olive oil to coat the bottom of the pan well. Add a good handful of chopped sweet Vidalia onions along with a shake or two of chile flakes and one clove of chopped garlic. Cook until the onion softens and the garlic is golden, about 5 minutes.

4. Add collards, season with salt and pepper, to taste. Sizzle. Stir.

5. Shake your manly booty.

6. When the collards begin to cook down, add a splash of white wine for acidity and a few glugs of vegetable stock for richness. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook until collards are tender, about 20 minutes.

7. Turn off the heat, and stir in a bit of maple syrup and a splash of sherry vinegar. Serve.

Preface to: A Letter To A Christian Nation by Sam Harris

Preface to: A Letter To A Christian Nation by Sam Harris

SINCE the publication of my first book, The End of Faith, thousands of people have written to tell me that I am wrong not to believe in God. The most hostile of these communications have come from Christians. This is ironic, as Christians generally imagine that no faith imparts the virtues of love and forgiveness more effectively than their own. The truth is that many who claim to be transformed by Christ's love are deeply, even murderously, intolerant of criticism. While we may want to ascribe this to human nature, it is clear that such hatred draws considerable support from the Bible. How do I know this? The most disturbed of my correspondents always cite chapter and verse.
While this book is intended for people of all faiths, it has been written in the form of a letter to a Christian. In it, I respond to many of the arguments that Christians put forward in defense of their religious beliefs. The primary purpose of the book is to arm secularists in our society, who believe that religion should be kept out of public policy, against their opponents on the Christian Right. Consequently, the "Christian" I address throughout is a Christian in a narrow sense of the term. Such a person believes, at a minimum, that the Bible is the inspired word of God and that only those who accept the divinity of Jesus Christ will experience salvation after death. Dozens of scientific surveys suggest that well over half of the American population subscribes to these beliefs. Of course, such metaphysical commitments do not imply any particular denomination of Christianity. Conservatives in every sect—Catholics, mainline Protestants, Evangelicals, Baptists, Pentecostals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and so on—are equally implicated in my argument. As is well known, the beliefs of conservative Christians now exert an extraordinary influence over our national discourse—in our courts, in our schools, and in every branch of government.
In Letter to a Christian Nation, I have set out to demolish the intellectual and moral pretensions of Christianity in its most committed forms. Consequently, liberal and moderate Christians will not always recognize themselves in the "Christian" I address. They should, however, recognize one hundred and fifty million of their neighbors. I have little doubt that liberals and moderates find the eerie certainties of the Christian Right to be as troubling as I do. It is my hope, however, that they will also begin to see that the respect they demand for their own religious beliefs gives shelter to extremists of all faiths. Although liberals and moderates do not fly planes into buildings or organize their lives around apocalyptic prophecy, they rarely question the legitimacy of raising a child to believe that she is a Christian, a Muslim, or a Jew. Even the most progressive faiths lend tacit support to the religious divisions in our world. In Letter to a Christian Nation, however, I engage Christianity at its most divisive, injurious, and retrograde. In this, liberals, moderates, and nonbelievers can recognize a common cause.

ACCORDING to a recent Gallup poll, only 12 percent of Americans believe that life on earth has evolved through a natural process, without the interference of a deity. Thirty-one percent believe that evolution has been "guided by God." If our worldview were put to a vote, notions of "intelligent design" would defeat the science of biology by nearly three to one. This is troubling, as nature offers no compelling evidence for an intelligent designer and countless examples of unintelligent design. But the current controversy over "intelligent design" should not blind us to the true scope of our religious bewilderment at the dawn of the twenty-first century. The same Gallup poll revealed that 53 percent of Americans are actually creationists. This means that despite a full century of scientific insights attesting to the antiquity of life and the greater antiquity of the earth, more than half of our neighbors believe that the entire cosmos was created six thousand years ago. This is, incidentally, about a thousand years after the Sumerians invented glue. Those with the power to elect our presidents and congressmen—and many who themselves get elected—believe that dinosaurs lived two by two upon Noah's ark, that light from distant galaxies was created en route to the earth, and that the first members of our species were fashioned out of dirt and divine breath, in a garden with a talking snake, by the hand of an invisible God.
Among developed nations, America stands alone in these convictions. Our country now appears, as at no other time in her history, like a lumbering, bellicose, dim-witted giant. Anyone who cares about the fate of civilization would do well to recognize that the combination of great power and great stupidity is simply terrifying, even to one's friends.
The truth, however, is that many of us may not care about the fate of civilization. Forty-four percent of the American population is convinced that Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead sometime in the next fifty years. According to the most common interpretation of biblical prophecy, Jesus will return only after things have gone horribly awry here on earth. It is, therefore, not an exaggeration to say that if the city of New York were suddenly replaced by a ball of fire, some significant percentage of the American population would see a silver lining in the subsequent mushroom cloud, as it would suggest to them that the best thing that is ever going to happen was about to happen: the return of Christ. It should be blindingly obvious that beliefs of this sort will do little to help us create a durable future for ourselves—socially, economically, environmentally, or geopolitically. Imagine the consequences if any significant component of the U.S. government actually believed that the world was about to end and that its ending would be glorious. The fact that nearly half of the American population apparently believes this, purely on the basis of religious dogma, should be considered a moral and intellectual emergency. The book you are about to read is my response to this emergency. It is my sincere hope that you will find it useful.

How to make amazing lecithin moisturizer at home

How to Make Lecithin Moisturizers

Lecithin is an emollient that helps make lotions creamy.
Lecithin is a type of fat derived from soybeans, vegetable oils, nuts, seeds and egg yolks. The human liver and brain also produce lecithin, and lecithin supplements can help lower cholesterol. Used in health and beauty products, it is a type of emulsifier called a binder, which helps oil and water mix together. This creates a creamy lotion that sinks into your skin to help moisturize away fine lines, wrinkles and dry patches. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure 1/2 cup of distilled water into a glass mixing bowl. Add 1/8 tsp. of powdered borax. Stir the mixture for 20 seconds with a plastic spoon. Rinse the spoon and set the bowl aside.

2
Measure 2 tbsp. of seed or nut oil, 1 tbsp. of coconut oil and 1 tsp. of rice bran oil into a separate glass mixing bowl. Stir them for 10 seconds with the plastic spoon to mix.

3
Add 1 tbsp of liquid lecithin to the oils and stir for 10 more seconds or until fully mixed.

4
Microwave each bowl for 45 seconds on high. If your coconut oil is solid, stir it after 45 seconds and microwave for another five seconds at a time until the coconut oil is fully melted.

5
Pour the borax water into the oil mixture and stir it for one minute at a time until the mixture is creamy. Add four drops of your favorite essential oil if you want fragranced or aromatherapeutic moisturizer.

6
Spoon the moisturizer into a jar with a lid that screws on tight. Store the moisturizer in a cool, dark place to help keep it fresh.

A Michael Tsarion Film - Architects of Mass Control & The Future of Mankind - 2:05 min

I could not believe how great this film was. After watching it I realized that if I could ignore the conspiracy theory and hard core fear mongering which I do not believe Tsarion intended you get this great gift of knowledge that this great film gives. The ending is worth wading through the beginning but the entire film must be watched from beginning to end. If you become uneasy persist...it's worth it.

Best natural antibiotic - short and sweet

Cayenne pepper and vitamin C. Take 1,000 mg of vitamin C to the equivalent of one capsule of cayenne pepper, which is about 1/8th to 1/4th of a teaspoon maximum in size. The very best combination I know, even more potent than synthetic antibiotics for clearing up infections of any kind, are garlic, goldenseal, cayenne pepper and vitamin C.

Interval Training to Lower High Blood Pressure

By Bill Zimmermann

Interval Training to Lower High Blood Pressure

As you know, I research low impact safe strategies to help you live your life and progress quickly and safely toward excellence in health and longevity. Here is the very best system I have come across for people who need to see results but do not have an athletes mind.

Enjoy.

Interval Variation I: Standard
The following is a typical interval workout. You alternate the same period of low intensity with the same period of higher intensity.

1. 3 - 5 minutes warmup (light jog, low intensity, gradually increasing at the end of the warmup period)

2. 1 minute moderate or high intensity followed by 1 minute low intensity (repeat 6 - 8 times)

3. 3 - 5 minutes cooldown (light jog, low intensity, gradually decreasing by the end of the cooldown period)

Interval Variation II: Pyramid
This pyramid structure allows you to start with short bursts of speed, and then you'll peak at the longest surge of energy in the middle of your workout before coming back down.

1. 3 - 5 minutes warmup

2. 30 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity

3. 45 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity

4. 60 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity

5. 90 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity

6. 60 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity

7. 45 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity

8. 30 seconds high intensity

9. 3 - 5 minutes cooldown

The Truth About Cholesterol

The Truth About Cholesterol
The idea that high cholesterol causes heart disease is based on the premise that cholesterol is found in the plaque of people with coronary artery disease. But does that automatically mean that cholesterol itself is the root cause, and must be kept at a minimum to prevent plaque formation?
The answer is “no.”
Missing from this hypothesis is the holistic understanding of how cholesterol operates inside your body, and why arterial plaques form in the first place.
Cholesterol is actually a critical part of your body’s foundational building materials and is absolutely essential for optimal health.
It’s so important that your body produces it both in your liver and in your brain. Cholesterol is also the raw material for all of your steroid hormones and vitamin D. There’s no doubt that you need it. So what’s the connection between cholesterol and heart disease?
If your body needs so much of it, what causes it to clog your arteries? The devil is in the details, as they say, and this is definitely true when it comes to cholesterol, because the cholesterol found in arterial plaque is not just any cholesterol, but oxidized, damaged cholesterol.
There is excellent research on animals where they fed animals plenty of cholesterol in their diet and they did just fine. But when they gave them even small amounts of tainted cholesterol, meaning oxidized cholesterol, within weeks it showed up in fatty streaks in their arteries.
We know why. There are receptors in the endothelial cells that are the lining of your arteries. There are receptors there for oxidized cholesterol. It picks it up, and it goes into the endothelial cells. The problem is that oxidized cholesterol does not look native to your macrophages, your immune system. It actually looks like bacteria. The macrophages move in to try and clean up what it thinks is bacteria, which is nothing more than oxidized cholesterol, and it creates a whole bunch of inflammation inside your arterial wall. The real culprit is oxidized cholesterol.
Where Does Oxidized Cholesterol Come From?
Oxidized cholesterol is introduced into your system every time you eat something cooked in vegetable oil. As soon as the oil is heated and mixes with oxygen, it goes rancid. Rancid oil is oxidized oil, and should not be consumed. This is why I constantly recommend avoiding all vegetable cooking oils, such as canola-, corn-, or soy oil, and replacing them with organic coconut oil, which remains stable and does not oxidize at higher temperatures.
Another reason for avoiding vegetable cooking oils is that the majority of them (at least in the US) are made from genetically engineered crops; plus they’re heavily processed on top of that. So not only do you have the issue of the polyunsaturated fats being oxidized, you also have these other toxic variables, such as glyphosate and Bt toxin found in genetically engineered corn and soy. Glyphosate is the active ingredient in the broad-spectrum herbicide Roundup, which is used in very large amounts on all of these crops. So there are a number of reasons for avoiding vegetable oils, but the fact that they’re oxidized is clearly a high-priority one.

Organic fertilizer

As part of our Biological Agriculture program we promote using a good foliar fertilizing program. Foliar feeding is essential to push the potential of plants beyond the average. Plants take in 80% of their needs through their leaves so adding some nutrients to their leaves promotes better growth and, in the end, a better quality product for the table or the market.
With our own program we have seen the BRIX of tomatoes increase from a 7 to a 13. We cannot say that the tomatoes' increase in quality is solely because of the foliar spray but a 13 BRIX tomato tastes outstanding and the foliar feeding did play a role in that. Besides tomatoes, the effects of foliar feeding can be seen on a number of crops. Here are some things to consider:
• Potatoes plants 3 ½ feet tall that were bug resistant without pesticide sprays
• Sweeter cherries that store an average of a week longer than non foliar fed
• Cherries that were fed with an active microbe inoculants averaged 7-8 row during a season when most cherries were 10-11 row.
• Raspberry plants that grew to an average length of 13 feet long and were loaded with berries
• Heirloom corn grew 9 ft tall with most stalks yielding 3 and 4 ears of corn

There are many other possibilities with foliar feeding but you will have to experiment for yourself and see what results you get and please feel free to let us know what you find. We have a range of foliar feeding supplies for the backyard garden and if you are interested you can call us at 1-606-663-6671 or email us through the contact page.
I recommend a combination of Foliar Soluble Fish (we use Agri Fish 4-1-1 as it is twice as thick as any other brands), Soluble Kelp, Molasses, Soluble trace minerals and some nitrogen fixing bacteria for activating the feed. The recipe I use for most spray is as follows:
• In a 5 gallon bucket add 4 gallons of water
• Add ¼ to 1/3 cup Soluble Fish
• Add ¼ to 1/3 cup molasses or sugar
• Add 1 tablespoon soluble kelp powder
• Add 1-2 tablespoons of a soluble minerals
• Add 1 tablespoon nitrogen fixing bacteria
• Add 1 tablespoon phosphorus releasing bacteria (optional)
We use specific products for the feed so the mix might vary a bit if you use different products, but it is handy to use a conductivity meter when mixing to make sure the *ergs do not exceed 1200 micro siemens so you don't burn your leaves!

Children of all species

The recent school child-killing spree in Connecticut has once again, in a tragic way, drawn our attention to the issue of violence in our society, and specifically our culture’s violence toward children. The conversation revolves a lot around the issue of personal gun ownership, but it is absolutely essential that we look much more deeply than this. Some people are wisely making the connection between the 20 children killed in the Connecticut shooting and the hundreds of children killed in the wars inflicted on the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan, and also the roughly five thousand children who starve to death every day in our world. Making the connections between these three forms of violence toward children is a vital part of the process of awakening, healing, and consciousness-raising that we need to go through, but there is much more that is even more powerful in its ramifications that is routinely hidden and denied. Without addressing and resolving the unseen dark side of our massive violence toward children, our efforts toward creating a society of freedom, equality, security, and harmony are ironic to the point of being absurd and one might even say, insane.

The hidden violence I am referring to here is two-fold: the routine violence toward the children of other species caused by our culture’s food and purchasing traditions, and the consequent harm toward our own children that is a direct result of this violence toward nonhuman animal children. By conservative estimate, we are killing 75 million animals every day in the U.S. for food. This far-reaching industrial killing machine that we have created to fulfill our desire for animal flesh and dairy products slaughters about nine billion chickens annually who are only about six weeks old. They are just infants, pushed hard by drugs, breeding, and feed to fatten up and grow at an accelerated pace for profitability. The millions of male chicks born in layer hatcheries are considered useless and are crushed or ground alive shortly after pecking their way out of their eggs. Pigs, cows, turkeys, ducks, geese, lambs, calves, and the other animals we eat are also mere children, killed as early as possible to save on feed costs. Even the oldest animals that we kill for food, the spent laying hens and dairy cows are only 3 to 5 years old; cows would live 25 years normally. The same is also true for the fishes we consume – two thirds of the fishes we eat are now factory-farmed, and the same conditions apply in the aquaculture operations that kill billions of fishes annually.

Animal agriculture, whether of the large-scale industrialized variety that supplies over 98 percent of our animal-based foods, or of the “free-range” variety, is based upon direct and unremitting violence and death to the newborn babies, infants, and children of the animal mothers who are impregnated against their will to produce these children. Our cruelty to these vulnerable animals boomerangs in two ways that we have yet to recognize as a culture: one is the direct violence it does to our bodies and minds. The other is the indirect violence it does to us as beings who are conscious and responsible moral and spiritual agents, co-creating our experience on this Earth, completely interconnected with other human beings, and with all living beings.

For the first time we can now plainly see the results of our culturally-mandated addiction to meals of meat and dairy products. For the first time, our children today are clearly and unequivocally in far worse shape physically and psychologically than former generations. Rates of childhood obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, and cancer are higher than ever. The same is true of autism and of diagnosed psychological illness such as ADD, ADHD, bipolar, and other disorders. We plainly have a situation where our children are being assaulted by toxic pharmaceutical drugs as never before, and also by toxic animal food products that concentrate hormone residues, as well as chemical, drug, and antibiotic residues from animals fed genetically-engineered feed laced with scores of chemicals and additives, and whose lives are nothing but fear, despair, and pain from birth to early death.

In addition, we now understand, for example, that our bodies are almost unimaginably complex: biologists estimate we’re made up of about 60-90 trillion cells, and each one of these trillions of cells is considered to be more complex than New York City! Our bodies are magnificent vehicles, and they are designed to be expressions of our creative yearnings to express, awaken, grow, and celebrate our lives on this beautiful and abundant planet. The same is also true for the bodies of cows, pigs, turkeys, fishes, and the other animals we are imprisoning and killing for food. Think of the enormous intelligence operating at the cellular level in our bodies and also in the bodies of these animals we kill and eat for food. Every chicken cell is also similarly complex, and when we steal a chicken from her mother and force her into a cage from birth, and then kill her weeks or months later, the enormous wisdom in the trillions of cells in her body know that something is terribly wrong, and when we cause that terror and despair by paying for it in restaurants and markets, and then eat it and feed it to our unsuspecting children, we are bringing a despair and darkness into ourselves, and forcing it onto our children, at the deepest levels. We are causal agents, and we inevitably reap what we sow, and our children do as well. In fact, we only continue this devastating behavior because we were, as children, fed this way, and told the deceptive official stories supporting it by every institution in our culture.

Thus we can begin to understand the second, or indirect, violence that we are causing ourselves, our children, and our communities and world. By unquestioningly acquiescing to the meal demands of our culture, and going along with and perpetrating the relentless killing of nonhuman children, we repress our natural intelligence and compassion, and learn to stay shallow and disconnected in our relationships with ourselves, and with each other. We remain merely busy in our various quests, lost in the cultural programming that reduces us to cogs in a machine that concentrates wealth and power in the hands of a tiny elite, and devastates the natural and inherent vitality and richness of ecosystems and communities in the process, and stealing our purposes, wisdom, and power.

May this recent killing spree at the Sandy Hook school in Connecticut serve as a reminder that we are all, as children, vulnerable, and that we have a noble obligation to protect the children—all the children—from cruelty, violence, enslavement, and toxic drugs, chemicals, and pollution. May we see that the actual physical suffering and disease caused our children by feeding them meat, dairy, and eggs, is so great that, as Dr. John McDougall puts it, “if parents inflicted this much physical suffering with a stick, they’d be put in jail.” May we see beyond that, to the emotional, spiritual, and cultural suffering we cause our children, each other, and ourselves, and beyond that to the nonhuman animals and their children, and ecosystems, and the future generations who are all interconnected with us. May we not be deceived into only caring about our own family, community, nation, or species, but understand that all living beings are our neighbors. And may we do what we can to understand the bigger picture that I’ve only been able to hint at in this short piece (outlined more fully in The World Peace Diet), and bring our lives into alignment with our values, and spread the vegan message of radical inclusion during this powerful season of solstice celebration of light and of the one life that sings through us all. May all children be happy, free, and at peace.

Pineal gland restoration

(NaturalNews) A tiny gland in the center of the brain named the pineal may seem insignificant, but researchers have found it to be vital for physical, mental and, many believe, spiritual health. Through poor diet, exposure to toxins, stress and modern lifestyle choices, the pineal gland becomes hardened, calcified and shuts down. To awaken this gland from its slumber, detoxification is necessary using diet and herbs, sunlight and pure water.

An important pea-sized gland

Pinecone shaped, the size of a pea and resting in the center of the brain, the pineal gland is small but powerful. It secretes melatonin, which regulates sleep/wake cycles, and serotonin, a neurotransmitter that fosters happy and balanced states of mind. Not only crucial for a good night's rest, melatonin also slows aging and is a potent antioxidant. It helps to protect against electromagnetic pollution as well. Moreover, individuals have reported heightened feelings of empathy while supplementing with melatonin -- leading to more harmonious interpersonal relationships.

Scientists suspect that N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is also produced by the pineal gland. This is the substance that gives shamanic botanicals like Psychotria viridis its hallucinatory kick. Dr. Rick Strassman, author of DMT, The Spirit Molecule, believes that the pineal gland produces DMT during mystical experiences as well as at birth and death. DMT is also associated with lucid dreaming, peak experiences, creativity and the ability to visualize.

Why the pineal gland becomes sluggish

As a result of the aging process and exposure to toxins, the pineal gland begins to calcify. Sodium fluoride is the number one enemy of a healthy pineal gland. This toxin is lurking in the water supply, conventionally grown food and toothpaste. Dietary hormones, mercury, processed foods, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol and refined sugars cause calcification as well. Radiation fields, like those found with cell phones and wi-fi networks, are damaging too. Avoiding these hazards is the preliminary step to healing this gland. The second course of action involves removing existing calcification.

How to revive optimal function

According to the Decalcify Pineal Gland website, the following foods and supplements are helpful for detoxifying the pineal gland and restoring vitality:

1. Organic blue ice skate fish oil
2. MSM
3. Raw chocolate
4. Citric acid
5. Garlic
6. Raw apple cider vinegar
7. Oregano oil and Neem extract
8. Activator X (vitamin K1/K2)
9. Boron
10. Melatonin
11. Iodine
12. Tamarind
13. Distilled water

Holly Paige of Food for Consciousness, also offers a number of suggestions to help jump start the pineal gland. "Happy Tea" is one. A mixture of passion flower and St. John's wort, the tea contains pinoline -- a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). When MAOIs are freely circulating within the system, more naturally occurring DMT is available to the brain -- encouraging creative and bright mental states.

Another pineal revitalizing brew is ayahuasca. Small 'tastes' of this preparation (one tablespoon per day) will help to elevate mood, creativity and inspiration. Ayahuasca can be made by boiling Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis (chakruna) with orange juice for a few hours. In large doses, it can substantially alter perception and trigger visions. In small amounts, it refreshes the mind. Please note: Extracting DMT from any plant, including Psychotria viridis, is illegal in the United States.

Sunlight is also considered 'food' for the pineal gland. At least 10 minutes of sunlight exposure is recommended each day. Meditation, chanting and pranayama breathing practices are beneficial to the pineal gland as well.
